The 18th PLANTA User Forum took place on 4–5 June 2019 at Novo­tel Karls­ru­he. This year’s pro­gram was fil­led with an abun­dance of cur­rent topics. This year, the focus was on hybrid pro­ject manage­ment and the new cor­po­ra­te design, which was pre­sen­ted exclu­si­ve­ly to PLANTA cus­to­mers. In addi­ti­on, a ran­ge of PM sub­jects of gene­ral importance were addressed.

PLANTA informs about the exten­si­ons made to the PLANTA soft­ware sin­ce the last user forum. In a road map, the plan­ning for the next quar­ters with regard to pro­ducts and stra­tegy was presented.

In a quite inte­res­t­ing key note, Johan­nes Felch­lin, Hel­ve­tia Ver­si­che­run­gen Basel, ela­bo­ra­ted on the topic of value crea­ti­on through agi­le pro­ject port­fo­lio manage­ment. He fur­ther­mo­re poin­ted out the suc­cess fac­tors and chal­lenges for effec­ti­ve and effi­ci­ent agi­le, but yet hybrid, pro­ject port­fo­lio management.

In his pre­sen­ta­ti­on Repre­sen­ta­ti­on of the deve­lo­p­ment pro­cess with Qua­li­ty Gates in PLANTA Project, Dr. Hol­ger Schwenk, Vacu­um­schmel­ze GmbH & Co. KG quite infor­ma­tively explai­ned that with the help of the pro­cess models in PLANTA and num­e­rous adjus­t­ments, both the enti­re inno­va­ti­on pro­cess from an idea to the finis­hed pro­duct or pro­cess and the dif­fe­rent pro­ject types can be repre­sen­ted as a whole.

The vivid pre­sen­ta­ti­on by Sabi­ne Ulli, AXA Ver­si­che­run­gen, From here to now: through the Vuca world with PLANTA show­ed us how crea­ti­vi­ty, quick­ness, and fle­xi­bi­li­ty are pos­si­ble in the world of plan­ning. Agi­le games roun­ded up the agi­le expe­ri­ence at the PLANTA User Forum in a quite enter­tai­ning but none­thel­ess edu­ca­tio­nal way.

In his demons­tra­ti­ve pre­sen­ta­ti­on Chan­geo­ver to 39 – Depar­tu­re to a new world, Rolf Jung­nis­ch­ke, Signal Iduna Grup­pe, intro­du­ced us to the par­ti­cu­lar chal­lenges of a release chan­ge in the cour­se of which a sys­tem, which had been employ­ed for 13 years, was readjusted.

In their pre­sen­ta­ti­on On the way to paper­less pro­ject manage­ment – Pro­cess models in PLANTA 39, Patric Geß­ner & Hei­ko Troff, LTI Moti­on GmbH infor­med us about their update to ver­si­on 39.5 enab­led them to faci­li­ta­te diver­se ela­bo­ra­te pro­ces­ses and to even­tual­ly save time and paper by means of pro­cess mini­miza­ti­on as well as with the help of inter­faces to the ERP world.

In PLANTA pre­sen­ta­ti­ons with a work­shop cha­rac­ter, par­ti­ci­pan­ts were illus­tra­tively infor­med on the fol­lo­wing topics:

• Hybrid pro­ject manage­ment with PLANTA Project
• Con­ti­nuous plan­ning across three levels: From stra­te­gic port­fo­lio plan­ning to team collaboration.
• PLANTA pul­se as a col­la­bo­ra­ti­on tool: prac­ti­cal exam­p­le + tips & tricks for plan­ning in teams
• Auto­ma­tic reco­gni­ti­on and appli­ca­ti­on of indi­vi­du­al adjus­t­ments to the new Standard
• New design – intro­duc­tion of the new design as of DB12 and of the opti­on to auto­ma­ti­cal­ly adjust indi­vi­du­al developments

In the cour­se of the cul­tu­ral accom­pany­ing pro­gram we got to know the sta­te winey­ard of Dur­lach with its pecu­li­ar site and lear­ned that the Turm­berg winey­ard is the only area in Ger­ma­ny which belongs to wine-gro­­wing zone B. Under magni­fi­cent suns­hi­ne, the par­ti­ci­pan­ts visi­ted the winey­ards in two groups and had the chan­ce to tas­te this spe­cial wine from Karls­ru­he. The exten­si­ve pro­duc­tion in the steep fields with their ter­races at the Turm­berg results in low yields so that the long-term share of spe­cial qua­li­ty wine is at 90 percent.

Once again, par­ti­ci­pan­ts of the user forum could sen­se a spe­cial atmo­sphe­re. The par­ti­cu­lar PLANTA spi­rit could be scen­ted in the plea­sant encoun­ters the ambi­tious PLANTA team was able to expe­ri­ence with the cus­to­mers — of which some have been atten­ding the PLANTA User Forum for many years.
